Putnam County Primary School ESOL

ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) is an instructional program that assists students in learning English (speaking, reading, writing, and listening). Students are given a language assessment to determine their eligibility. Furthermore, students are tested each year to assess their proficiency levels and eligibility for exiting the program.

At Putnam County Primary School, the ESOL program uses thematic units to introduce common vocabulary while integrating reading, writing, and other grade level skills. Lessons are often hands-on to capture student interests, build upon prior knowledge, and instill a life-long love for learning.
